FIND EASY
An app that provides recipes and finds ingredients within (niche) markets.
In a one week design sprint I designed a concept for an app that would make shopping easier for foreign recipes. While it might be intuitive for some people on what to shop for with bibimbap or how to cook the egg in oyakodon- many in the U.S. might not be aware of just what to do. And some may even want vegan options!
And along the way the journey of happy paths revealed more of possible features and goals.
I created an app where users would not only be able to successfully search for foreign recipes inside of a market, but also quickly be provided the necessary ingredients, get vegan options, and save recipe instructions.

Let's meet our users for Find Easy
The Adventurous Cook
The Adventurous Cook, or Jamie, likes to cook new dishes all the time. Jamie would love to be able to cook a recipe without having to worry about buying the right ingredients when making a new dish, but is unsure of what to buy oftentimes, and feels lost whenever they step into a niche or culture-based market. Jaime also prefers vegan dishes.
The Curious Chef
The Curious Chef, or Robyn, likes to visit markets on the weekends to make sure they have all their food for the week. Sometimes they would like to be able to see what they can cook based on the ingredients supplied at a market, especially at their local Korean markets since they have little time during the week to plan meals.
The Adventurous Cook
Wants to cook foreign recipe but is unsure of what ingredients to purchase.
The Adventurous Cook would also like to have vegan options for recipes.
The Curious Chef
is too busy to plan meals ahead of time and would like an easy way to browse recipes according to the ingredients supplied at a market.
The Curious Chef also would to locate the ingredients easily at the market.
Find Easy
Will allow users to accurately and efficiently buy ingredients for recipes inside markets, as well as provide vegan options, and a map for markers of ingredients.
We want to help...
...the Adventurous Cooks to search up foreign recipes and buy exactly what they need at a market.
...the Curious Chefs to see a list of recipes provided at the market in regards to the ingredients it supplies.
Discovering happy paths
The approach to helping our users was to sketch out possible ways of solutions for the app, and to gather all the responses through testings involving three tasks. And additionally we would reiterate with accordingly to new data.
1. Search a recipe by
using the search bar.
We had users go through the task of searching up a recipe by navigating with the search bar.
2. Find A Vegan Option
We had users go through the task of finding a vegan option within a recipe.
3. Search for The Map
We had users go through the task of finding the location of ingredients within a market.
What our Users had to say afterwards
"I wish I could click on the map to zoom."
Although there was a magnifying glass signifying zooming in and out, users all intuitively clicked on the imafe of the map to zoom in and out.
KEY INSIGHT
"I like seeing the cuisine buttons."
KEY INSIGHT
Our users appreciated having a choice to look through cuisines while navigating for a recipe.
"The market button confuses me."

Users were unsure of what the "Market" button meant, and needed more clarity on the button's function.
Users went through the three tasks again. The same goals, but with added features from the results of the first usability tests.
Search for a recipe by using the search bar, find recipe
instructions, and save it.

What our Users had to say for the second time
"I like the featured recipe of the day."
Users were drawn to the featured recipe of the day, and wanted to learn more despite being new to the recipe, and having a different recipe in mind to cook at the beginning.
KEY INSIGHT
"Can this be available in American markets too?"
KEY INSIGHT
Users who did not cook as much in general also expressed interest for American recipes to be available.
"I want to have an option to see what is available in a market before going."
KEY INSIGHT
While most users preferred to search up recipes first and then head to the market, some users wanted to see what a market supplied before making the decision to go for purchase.
Brand Guidelines
The Next Steps
Delivery
Option
A delivery option would be essential for users during times where mobility is a potential issue (ex. COVID-19).
Pick-up
To save time and efficiency users would be provided pick-up options for pre-purchased ingredients.
Points
System
A points system would be one way to increase loyalty to the app and more engagement with users.
Languages
To be aware of diverse users languages should be optional and delegated to certain regions (ex. Spanish for L.A. users).
Sales
Discounts and sales of ingredients would drive user engagement with the app and provide incentives for users.
Car
Navigation
Add link to navigation for users who plan to drive to a market and would like to be provided with directions.
